When our Hangzhou tour guide first mentioned the option of going to a show one night, the band wasn't particularly enthusiastic. But no sooner did she mention that there would be kung fu, than the band unanimously agreed to go. The kung fu was actually only a small portion of the show, but we didn't care. We wanted to be able to come home and say that we watched kung fu in China!

The kung fu was very much a stage show, with costumes, fake swords, and fake fighting. So it was not nearly as realistic-looking as either competitive kung fu or movie kung fu, but it still looked very cool. It was difficult to take pictures, but I managed to get two posed shots and one mid-air shot that I was quite happy about.

There was a great deal of other variety in this show... which they seemed to try to tie together via narration on large TV screens, but it didn't really matter if it made sense. There was more acrobatics, many different styles of dancing (including Irish and French styles), singing (lipsynced), roller-skating (meant to imitate ice-skating), and magic. The kung fu was the highlight, as far as I was concerned, but some of the other things were interesting as well. Most of the acrobatics show was similar to what we had seen previously, but there were some new additions, such as two girls dangling from the ceiling.
